KJ Reed: Hey, Rhian, thanks for talking with me! Coyote Run is actually the prequel to your already-published Coyote Home. I read Coyote Home, so now I’m really curious about the back story of these two. Did you have fun revisiting these two? What about them made you want to go back and give the back story?

Rhian Cahill: While Coyote Home is about Quinn and Rowan finally getting their happy ever after their story really began years earlier. I have a lot of other scenes in my head for these two, they’ve known each other forever but have been forced to remain apart, while Coyote Home tells of them finally getting to be together Coyote Run gives a brief glimpse of the tough decision they had to make to ensure they even got the chance at a future together. I guess in a way I also wanted readers to understand the sacrifices these two have made and why they weren’t about to let anything get in their way this time.

KJ: Why coyotes? What was it about that animal that made you want to write?

Rhian: In one word, Brogan. {KJ’s Note: Brogan is Rowan’s brother.} lol It’s a bit of a story really but Brogan was the first character in the Coyote Hunger series to come to me. It was on a family trip while driving through Yosemite National Park that a scene popped into my head. Of course I had no idea he was a coyote shifter until I started writing. lol

KJ: Is Coyote Run where Rowan and Quinn meet for the first time?

Rhian: No. They’ve known each other for a lifetime. Coyote Run is were they finally claim each other as mates even with the uncertainty of their future hanging over their heads.

KJ: When you wrote them, which came first? The chicken or the egg? Just kidding. But which story came to you first, Run or Home?

Rhian: Wild. lol No, seriously, I wrote Coyote Wild first. Brogan is just such a vivid real character to me that he couldn’t be denied. After I wrote Wild I knew I had to go back and write Home because without Rowan’s return El (Brogan’s heroine) never would have found her way to Whispering Mountains. So I kind of worked my way backwards. Coyote Wild, Coyote Home and then Coyote Run. Jeez, Mr. Muse has a lot to answer for. *grin*

KJ: Goodness, you’re just all kinds of backwards! Haha What is your favorite part of Rowan and Quinn as a couple? What makes them tick?

Rhian: I’d have to say their willingness to do whatever it takes to be together even if that means being apart. Then again I love every aspect of their relationship. Rowan always was strong but it took living away from all she knew for her to understand that and be able to come back in a better position to make not only the relationship with Quinn work but to help establish the future of her pack. Quinn is strong from the beginning, he lets her go when every instinct he has is screaming to hold onto her but when she finally does come home we see the softer side of him, the one that allows her to make her own decisions and stands beside her in her effort to rejoin the pack. And really, who can go past the smokin’ hot sex. *grin*

KJ: That level of dedication is just beautiful.  I know that Rowan’s brother, Brogan, has his own story in Coyote Wild. Any more stories from this pack? If not, what’s up your sleeve next?

Rhian: I’ve got a contemporary quickie contracted, I’m in edits for that now but I do have at least another two books in the Coyote Hunger series planned. Plus there’s the possibility of more. As I write each book someone else turns up and gets me thinking they’ve got a story to tell so it’s not really set in stone yet.

KJ: You’re a busy, busy woman! I guess I should let you get back to it! But thank you so much for coming on over to say hey, and congratulations on your new release! Now shoo! Off you go!

Coyote Run is available now from Ellora’s Cave.

Prequel to the Coyote Hunger series.

Forced to make the heartwrenching decision to leave Whispering Mountains, Rowan Wilder isn’t about to go without securing her bond with Quinn MacClellan. Neither expected their first time to be on the forest floor or while running to escape a madman but when it comes to claiming their mate, nothing can stop the hunger from burning out of control and consuming them both.

Publisher’s Note: This is not a standalone story; it has a cliffhanger ending. The next book in the series, Coyote Home,is needed to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
